Bizerba as Innovation Partner in Barilla’s “Good Food Makers – ECOSYSTEM” Program

Balingen, Germany, 10/07/2025

| Bizerba is participating as a technology partner in the seventh edition of Barilla’s international innovation program “Good Food Makers.” In a global landscape shaped by rapid technological shifts and evolving consumer expectations, the Barilla Group is reaffirming its commitment to innovation by actively engaging with supply chain partners to identify forward-looking, dynamic tech solutions. This commitment takes shape with the official launch of Good Food Makers 2025, an open innovation program targeting startups, spin-offs, and innovative companies aiming to transform the agri-food sector. The 2025 edition, titled “Good Food Makers – ECOSYSTEM,” aims to establish an open innovation ecosystem that connects stakeholders across the entire agri-food value chain – from agriculture and processing to retail.  Within this framework, Bizerba contributes its expertise to the challenge “New Frontiers in Detection” by guiding participating companies and supporting them in shaping practical solutions for more reliable and precise quality control.

As part of the program, Bizerba is partnering in the innovation challenge “New Frontiers in Detection,” which focuses on advancing detection systems in industrial production environments. The goal of the challenge is to identify new solutions that help enhance the reliability and precision of quality control processes.

Besides the challenge supported by Bizerba, two further challenges have been defined within the “Good Food Makers – ECOSYSTEM” program, in collaboration with other partners: “AgTech for Climate Resilience,” with Open Fields, with a focus on sustainable basil cultivation and resilient agriculture, and “Best on Shelf,” developed in collaboration with Conad Nord Ovest, aimed at optimizing shelf assortment and product placement in retail. All three challenges bring together innovative companies and established corporates to jointly develop practical, forward-looking solutions across the food value chain.

Bizerba’s Expertise in Industrial Inspection

Bizerba brings extensive experience in the development of industrial inspection and quality assurance technologies. The company’s portfolio in this area includes metal detectors, visual inspection systems, X-ray inspection units, and dynamic checkweighers – used, among other things, for weight control and packaging inspection (e.g., seal integrity and leak detection). These systems are deployed worldwide in the food industry as well as in the metal, electronics, and chemical sectors.

With this expertise, Bizerba actively supports the goals of the challenge and underlines its commitment to driving technological innovation throughout the food value chain.

A Platform for Sustainable Transformation

“Good Food Makers – ECOSYSTEM” is implemented in collaboration with Almacube, the innovation hub of the University of Bologna, and Confindustria Emilia Area Centro. The program offers selected winners a four-week co-design sprint, which will culminate in the Innovation Day in January 2026.

The program fosters a collaborative innovation ecosystem, opening up to Barilla's value chain partners to develop and implement emerging technologies with tangible impact.
