Food safety is a responsibility – every day

| Every day, billions of people eat and trust that their food is safe. But food safety does not happen by itself. On June 7, World Food Safety Day draws attention to how crucial safe food is for our health, our society, and our trust in the entire value chain.
At Bizerba, we see food safety not just as a technical task, but as a social responsibility.

Whether on supermarket shelves, in canteens, or in restaurants, what we eat should not only taste good, it should also be safe. Every year, World Food Safety Day on June 7 reminds us that safe food is not a given. According to the WHO, around 2.4 million people worldwide die every year as a result of contaminated food. The day was proclaimed by the United Nations in 2018 to draw attention to this very fact and to mobilize responsibility.

Because food safety is more than hygiene regulations or laboratory tests. It is a shared responsibility of agriculture, industry, trade, science, politics—and ultimately all of us.

Social responsibility requires a stance

At Bizerba, food safety is not a niche issue, but part of our identity. As a technology partner along the entire food value chain, we take responsibility—not only technically, but also socially.

Safe food is a human right. And this right can only be guaranteed if every link in the chain does its part. For us, this means setting standards, developing new solutions, and identifying risks before they arise. Our goal is to create processes that prevent errors instead of just reacting to them.

But it's about more than technology: it's about trust. And it's about a promise to consumers worldwide.

Technology is key – but only when used correctly. This year's World Food Safety Day motto sums it up perfectly: “Food safety: science in action.”

Technology alone is not enough. It must be used responsibly by people, integrated into processes, and continuously refined. Only then can science and innovation have a real impact.
